Proceedings of the 7th African Epidemiological Association and 1st Ghana Epidemiological Society Conference
The Ghana Epidemiological Society (GhES), in collaboration with the African Epidemiological Association (AfEA), hosted the 7th AfEA and 1st GhES Conference from 13 – 15th October, 2026 at Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra. The theme of the Conference is “Harnessing Epidemiological Innovation and Technology to Improve Disease Response in Africa.”

The maiden joint conference brought together about 400 epidemiologists, public health practitioners, researchers, policymakers, development partners, and industry stakeholders from over 25 countries across Africa and other parts of the world.

The conference featured scientific research presentations, plenary talks, and panel discussions delivered by representatives from AFENET, FAO, Ghana Health Service, Ghana’s Ministry of Health, NIRDH-ICMR, the Pandemic Fund, WHO, WAHO, and academic institutions.

Throughout the conference, participants exchanged ideas and experiences on innovative, technology-driven approaches to tackling Africa’s public health challenges. Discussions brought pressing health system constraints into focus and spotlighted the vital contributions of epidemiologists, early-career researchers, and young scientists to protecting communities and advancing population health.

The conference proceedings featured 270 abstracts across six conference sub-themes, showcasing research in epidemiology and public health. The event also brought scientists, academics, industry stakeholders, and policymakers together to build connections and explore opportunities for collaboration.
As a high-level forum for scientific exchange, the conference placed evidence at the heart of discussions on strengthening disease surveillance, advancing prevention, improving nutrition, and shaping population health policies across Africa.
