This supplement documents the epidemiological studies and field activities conducted through Guinea’s Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP). Established in 2017 following the 2014–2016 West Africa Ebola outbreak, Guinea’s FETP was developed to strengthen the country’s capacity to prevent, detect, investigate, and respond to public health threats.

The program began with FETP-Frontline in 2017, through a collaborative effort of many partners, including Guinea’s Ministry of Health and its National Agency for Health Security (ANSS), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), and Research Triangle Institute International (RTI). Through competency-based training and field mentorship, FETP-Frontline equips public health professionals with practical skills in disease surveillance, data collection and analysis, outbreak investigation, and evidence-based decision-making.

Building on the Frontline program, FETP-Intermediate was launched in Guinea in 2019, with the same overarching goal of strengthening the national disease surveillance system and improving the detection, investigation, and response to outbreaks and other public health emergencies. The Intermediate program provides more advanced epidemiological training and further develops the capacity of public health professionals to analyze and interpret surveillance data, conduct epidemiological investigations, and translate findings into effective public health action.

This supplement highlights the implementation, achievements, field experiences, and contributions of Guinea’s FETP in strengthening the country’s public health workforce, surveillance system, outbreak response capacity, and overall health security.
